How can Fleur Chalky Look be used?

Open the jar, dip the brush and follow your imagination. Fleur is perfect for both decoration and fine arts. Moreover it can be used for the realization of many decorative techniques.

How long does the painting last once the jar is opened?

The paint does not have an expiration date and can last for several years, if stored correctly. It is important not to add water and close the jar firmly after each use, as Fleur, being an eco-friendly product, does not contain preservatives.

Can Fleur colours be mixed?

Yes, all Chalky Look colours can be mixed together. Yes, the colors can be mixed together.

Can I mix Fleur with water?

All Fleur colours are ready to use. Nevertheless they can be mixed with water, if you want to obtain veiling or transparency effects.

Can the Spray Chalky Look be used indoors?

Yes, the Chalky Look spray is water based and therefore less harmful than solvent based sprays. Furthermore, its special composition makes it an odorless product.

Do you need to apply a finish to surfaces or objects painted with Fleur?

Walls and decorative objects painted with Fleur Chalky Look do not need to be protected with a varnish. On the other hand it is good to apply a protective varnish on all everyday objects.

The surfaces painted with Fleur Eggshell do not need any protective varnish.

Do you need to use a primer?

All Fleur colours have excellent adhesion and can be applied directly on any surface without primer. Despite this, in case of high wear surfaces, to add resistance and adhesion, it is advisable to use one of the following primers: apply Universal Primer on non-absorbent surfaces, apply Primer for Wood to even out an absorbing surface; apply Antirust Primer to block the corrosion of a metal object.

Do you need to sand before painting with Fleur?

The object you are about to paint must be perfectly clean. If there are residues of dust, oils or waxes, it may be necessary to use a professional cleaner. Generally it is not necessary to sand, but there may be cases in which old layers of paint must be removed, especially when they peel off.

Is it possible to renew a wooden piece of furniture without sanding it?

Yes. If you do not want to sand the wooden surface, you must follow this procedure:

  1. Degrease and clean the surface very well with alcohol;
  2. Apply one coat of Universal Primer and wait 24 hours;
  3. Apply 2 coats of Chalky Look, letting it dry between one one coat and the other.

For better protection, apply one coat of Fleur clear varnish, available in the matt, glossy and satin finish.

Which is the coverage of Fleur colours?

130 ml: 1,5 m²

Spray 300 ml: 2 m²

330 ml: 4 m²

0,75 l: 9 m²

2,5 l: 30 m²

The indicated coverage is to be understood by one coat. Generally we suggest to apply 2 coats to get a uniform result and to enhance the colour depth of the colours.

In what sizes are the colours available?

Fleur colours are available in 5 different sizes: 50ml, 130ml, 330ml, 750ml and 2.5l.

The spray colours are available in 100 ml and 300 ml size.

Not all colours are available in all sizes. We suggest you consult our colour chart.

Is Chalky Look Spray UV resistant?

The spray Chalky Look colours are not UV resistant, while the three transparent varnishes are. So to protect Fleur colours from UV rays, just apply a coat of spray varnish.

Are Fleur Paint Markers erasable?

No, the Paint Markers Fleur are permanent.

What kind of surface can be painted with Fleur?

Any type of surface, both porous and non-porous. It can be applied on raw or laminated wood, melamine, glass, metal, plastic, cork, polystyrene, terracotta, fabric, …

Can Fleur be used outside?

Eggshell can also be used outdoors. While if you want to use Fleur Chalky Look outside, it is advisable to protect the colour with 1 or 2 coats of protective varnish.

Can the Chalky Look spray be applied on polystyrene?

Yes, while other spray paints are aggressive on polystyrene, Fleur can also be applied onto this material.

Can the Spray Chalky Look be applied on outdoor furniture?

Chalky Look Spray has a good resistance outdoors, but for a lasting finish it is advisable to protect the surface with the specific Anti-UV varnish.

Can the Chalky Look colours be used on walls?

Yes, the Chalky Look colours can also be used on walls following this procedure:

  1. Apply 2 coats of the colour Chalky Look allowing, letting it dry between one coat and the other.
  2. To ensure greater protection, apply a coat of transparent varnish, available with a matte, glossy or satin finish.

As an alternative to the Chalky Look colours, it is possible to use the more resistant Eggshell colours, which do not require the transparent varnish. Unlike the Chalky Look which is extremely opaque, the Eggshell has a satin look.

Is it possible to use Fleur to paint the refrigerator of a kitchen?

Yes, it is possible, following this procedure:

  1. Clean the surface very well with alcohol;
  2. Apply a coat of Universal Primer and let it dry for 24 hours;
  3. Apply 2 coats of Eggshell colour, letting the product dry between one coat and another.

For better protection, apply a coat of Fleur clear varnish, available in matt, glossy and satin version.

Is it possible to use Fleur to paint a kitchen top?

Yes, it is possible, following this procedure:

  1. Thoroughly clean the surface with alcohol;
  2. Apply a coat of Universal Primer and let it dry for 24 hours;
  3. Apply 2 coats of Eggshell colour, letting the product dry between one coat and another.

For an extra strong finish, apply a coat of two-component extra-matt varnish.

Do Fleur colours adhere to fabric?

Yes, Fleur adheres to most surfaces, including natural and synthetic fabrics.

Some useful indications:

  1. Before painting the fabric, it is good to wash it, in order to remove the starch;
  2. Do not apply a thick layer of colour, so as to prevent the fabric from becoming stiff. This will prevent the formation of cracks over time.

Can Fleur colours also be used by children?

Yes. The Fleur colours are water-based and have very low VOC emissions, so they are almost completely non-toxic. However, it should be pointed out that Fleur products are not specifically designed for use by children and therefore do not comply with the relevant safety regulations.

Do Fleur colours resist in the washing machine?

Yes, the Fleur colours, if applied on fabric, can be washed at 30°C in the washing machine

Can your products be used on everyday dishes, washed in the dishwasher?

No, it is not possible. Fleur colours are water-based, with mineral content, with very low VOC emissions, therefore almost completely non-toxic. However they can not be used on dishes for daily use, as they are not suitable for contact with food. what’s more they cannot be washed in the dishwasher.

What is the difference between Fleur and a normal chalk paint?

Chalk paints are acrylic paints to which chalk or opaque paste are added, while Fleur is a mineral-based paint. Minerals create a matte finish, extremely authentic, with incredible chromatic depth.

Can Fleur be used for the Shabby Chic technique?

Yes, Fleur Chalky Look colours are perfect for creating the Shabby Chic technique, as, unlike most acrylic colours, they do not peel off.

Is it possible to paint with Fleur simil-leather or real leather seats?

Yes, it is possible, following this procedure:

  1. Clean and degrease the surface with alcohol;
  2. Apply 2 coats of Chalky Look spray, letting the product dry between one coat and another.

For greater resistance, before applying the colour, it is suggested to apply a coat of Universal Primer in the spray version.
